A traveler in pursuit of experiences………the pic on my profile represents me aptly. There is so much in life to acomplish that one shouldn't be contended by achieving a few aspirations. There is so much potential in each one of us that we compete with ourselves (In this pic, Tintin racing against his shadow)

Do what the heart Says!!!

Disclaimer: This post is a strict no-no for all those who detest a philosophical lecture; In case you are confused if you are one....just read on...you'll find your answers!!!

Newton’s first law of motion states, “A body continues to be in the state of rest or motion unless acted upon by an external force". This law is also applicable to our life in terms of what we do. Most of us; I would rather say all of us out here have an eye on the placements all the while (Except for the likes of our carpet king - Pranay). Each one of us dreams of getting an awesome pay package so that we can fulfill our social needs; pay off loans, buy house in a couple of years, own an Audi or Ford or something of that sort before they touch 30. But what when these needs are met off; hmm.. if you are thinking of the Maslovs hierarchy of needs, I must say you have been taking your OB (Organizational Behavior ) classes seriously!!

While we are in pursuit of fulfilling one dream after other; one thing that we need to question is," Does it have an opportunity cost associated to it?"(Here I go, another lingo). Is there something that we are compromising for the same? Well, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves, all of us would admit the answer to be yes!! We are compromising; we all are!

Did I ever think of becoming an Engineer? Nope. So how come I went about choosing engineering! It wasn't my decision but more to do with what my parents wanted me to do! And what did I aspire to be? A tennis player!! (At one point, I really wanted to go to Ahmedabad, that was the nearest place to where I stayed, and take up professional coaching; but I just didn't have the guts to tell my parents as to what was in my mind). Most of us have had a similar experience where they are made to follow something conventional while their heart lies somewhere else! It is difficult to take the path that is least walked upon!! All our life just passes by satisfying the expectations of others; parents, teachers, friends, peers, partners ...the list is endless! No wonder why most of the people in their old age have grudges over unaccomplished tasks and activities because all the while we are trying to meet up to what other people expect at the cost of what the heart wants, at the cost of what gives you that pleasure. For some it might be writing, for some it might be observing people, for some photography; people might perceive it to be crazy but I feel there is nothing like being crazy!! If one is crazy, he/she is bound to be passionate about it and if one is passionate, he/she is bound to excel and perform well.

All these thought were a part of my sub conscious mind until the start of the leadership classes this week, by Professor Debashish Chaterjee. The thoughts of what I really want to do and what I am doing towards it is what is tickling my grey cells and exciting my neurons!! His lectures have been the source of energy that has put the thought process in motion...from one neuron to another!! (Opps..I need to be careful about the choice of words; plagiarism is on check and inspiration, a sophisticated way of saying copying, becomes even more difficult with the introduction of new software -turnitin). It has just been two days that we have started the course, but the thought process has already begun. I can see that happening in a lot of my batchmates. I hope this process is not stalled by the odds against it (the expectations) and the guys & gals to do what they always wanted to do.

Often when we are crossroads and need to take a decision, we do get options; one that the mind advocates while the other the heart does. Mostly we choose what has been advocated by the mind; but this decision is the one that is conventional one, a calculated path with a safe bet!! But had this been the thought process, we wouldn’t have had the likes of Bhagat Singh. He sacrificed his life to do what his heart felt was right! What we have at stake is much smaller when compared. So isn't it worth attempting to peruse what our heart wants!!
