A traveler in pursuit of experiences………the pic on my profile represents me aptly. There is so much in life to acomplish that one shouldn't be contended by achieving a few aspirations. There is so much potential in each one of us that we compete with ourselves (In this pic, Tintin racing against his shadow)

Back with a Vengeance……

It’s been over 8 months that I haven’t been blogging. Friends visiting my page at a regular interval might be scratching their head for the disappearing act of mine. But then it wasn’t any conscious effort on my part to evade blogging...just that I didn’t find time. To put it in a rather sophisticated manner, let me say, it wasn’t on my priority list.

I wouldn’t say that all this while was damn busy…but then it was a blend of both being busy as well as lazy. It might seem surprising but inspite of staying in a city where I completed my schooling, I really haven’t been able to visit my Alma matter for over a year now; that inspite me being very emotionally attached to my school. I just can’t let go of the immense role that Bhavan’s has played in my development as a human being. Be it the class room study or the experiences out side that, its been an enriching experience. Even today, upon seeing the Navy blue school blazer hanging in my cupboard, all those memories fill in me a sense of pride. This would really give you a fair amount of idea of how much I love to sleep on holidays and the laziness that has creped into me.

So when I take a stock of the situation of the 8 months that have passed, I see myself standing at the cross roads, unaware of what lies ahead of me. My initial tryst with blogging was owing to the ample time that I had while I was in the FEA team. Since I had made it known to my boss (now my ex-boss) about the fact that I wanted to make a move to the marketing team, over a period of time he developed a cold reaction towards me. He slowly reduced the work load and thus gave me ample time to engage in other activities (One of which was blogging)

Though it gave me ample time, but slowly I started feeling sick of the situation. I have been of the opinion from the very start of my career to gallop during the initial laps of my career and then take it easy, but here was some thing contrary to what I wanted. All I wanted now was to expedite my process of shifting as soon as possible. But that wasn’t to happen as my to be boss (Mr. Avneesh Saksena- Head of Marketing) and VGV (The unit head were out of station. By the time these people were back at office, I went off to my yearly holiday to Kolkata. The break was indeed a welcome one, which gave me respite from the situation back at office.

By the time I was back, things had been sorted out between the two concerned persons and thus in a day or two of my returning I moved to the Marketing team. During the same time there was an assignment at the CEO’s office for which a colleague of mine from the marketing went and I got his portfolio. I had to handle the Business development activities of UK. I felt as if, things fell well in my lap and all I had to do was milk the cow.

The initial few days were hectic as I had to ensure the smooth transfer of accounts from my colleague. During the initial days, I did get a lot of help from Ankit (He’s been with L&T for 5 years now; he too had joined as a GET) & Shallabh (He’s a batch senior to me and was a GET). The other people in the team were Pranav (I knew him since the time I was in FEA, but didn’t have too much of interaction in the beginning. But now he is one of the best friends that I have at L&T. It’s real fun to pull his legs and indeed great that he takes it sportingly), Poonam & Apeksha (the two girls in the team), Mukul (A batch mate of mine, joined along with me as a GET. During the time we were at hemdeep, we had a common set of friends, a total party freak, a good DJ), Vivek Dubey (The next man to Avneesh Saksena, but was of interfering nature, which was the reason he wasn’t liked by many).

Over a period of time, I feel I have shouldered some important responsibilities, especially the website development. I’m indeed thankful of Shallabh & Pranav for helping me in the same. But at the same time I did feel frustrated and annoyed with Mr.Avneesh’s work allotment. Here there were three guys who were getting screwed with the work of website as well handling the territories, while some others were just let off. Though Mr.Saksena is knowledgeable and experience, I feel he is not suited for a Marketing job. My perspective of a Marketing guy is that he should be dynamic and action oriented; something alike VGV. During this period I also had a nice time with the Interns; Thomas from France, Reinhard from Austria and Yutaka (or as we call him fondly, yu-kutta) from Japan. We did have a good time at office.

But in the last 8 months the best thing that happened was my trip to Malayasia & Singapore. The trip was just awesome, but what was special was that I took my parents out for the trip. Right from the arrangements to the expenses; it was such a satisfying way of saying thank in a very small way for all that they have done for me. I had the opportunity to don many caps during the trip, right from the finance to accountant to porter to guide. Those 8 days were indeed memorable, especially with the shopping that I did for myself (My Ma also keeps telling me that I was the one who was the most benefited out of the trip, more so because as I had the finance department under my jurisdiction). Now when I look at that holiday all that I have in my mind is; “Where to next?”
