A traveler in pursuit of experiences………the pic on my profile represents me aptly. There is so much in life to acomplish that one shouldn't be contended by achieving a few aspirations. There is so much potential in each one of us that we compete with ourselves (In this pic, Tintin racing against his shadow)

Life at SPJCM, Singapore

It has been almost four months that I have been in SPJCM Singapore. I still remember the flight from Ahmedabad to Singapore. All my way, the only thing that I had in my mind was, if I had taken a right decision. A decision to quit my job at L&T and come all theway to Singapore to do my MBA. This doubt used to get even more visible when I used to tell my friend that I have quit my job and heading to Singapore for my MBA - Pat used to come the question ; NUS, Nanyang?? All that I could do was say, " SPJain" (in a soft voice). Upon being probed further I just used to vomit all that I had read on its website - twin city model, faculties from....and so on.

When back in India, I used to bombard Navz (Navneet - my classmate in school and one of my closest friend), who was studing in the same college, with all my questions. He would patiently answer them, inspite of me asking him same thing over and over again. I guess all this could give you a sense of what was running thru my mind.

Upon arriving in Singapore, we were taken to our desination for the next six months - SPJCM Campus on 10 Hyderabad road. The journey since then has been a memorable one. It felt good to be back in college. The initial few days went in knowing each other, undergoing the orientation programs, getting a feel of things happening here. I remember the first thing I did that evening was play TT with Navz. We used to play a lot to relax during our board exams(12th). It was indeed good to revive the memories.

The next best thing that we had was the Freshers party!! (If any of the June 07 batch member is reading this post, kindly give a pat on your back for the show you had put up).The fresher party was on the 12th of Jan at Hortpark. Amazing location for an amazing party! The songs, the skits, the dances, the fashion show, the games and the arrangement could just be summarized in a word - perfect!! Inspite of having the daily assignments, tests - the June batch guys and gals had put their heart and soul to the event!! We were just in awe of them after that evening! We partied that night and i still remember all the events as if it was just yesterday!! Quite impactful indeed!!

Since then quizzes, classes, groupworks, sumissions and even more submissions have been the norm of the day. The initial professors that had come to teach us were really good but we were made to rethink the same with each new subject. To see the Profs from IIM's, XLRI, NUS and other B Schools in India and abroad was a treat for us. They were not only good profs but noble hearted souls who selflessly passed on their knowledge. The likes of Manek Mukesh (Financial Accounting), Ramkumar (Marketing Management) and H. Mankad (Macro Economice) had energy levels far exceeding that of ours. We all talk about ROI's (Return on Investment); kindly bear with my use of lingos now that I'm 1/3 MBA, If I had to calculate the ROI of this course, I would easily consider my account to be positive by the time I leave Singapore and head for Dubai. To be taught by such professors is a treat in itself and the amount one invests is indeed worth each cent!!

Ever since SPJCM started, there have been a few set of people (and animals) that have been happy. If you are thinking that I am talking about recruiters (because of the fact that SPJCM students are doing good), you are mistaken. I'm talking about the chowkidars (and the noctarnal animals). Gone are the days when the chowkidars used to be the only people burning the midnight oil. At SPJCM, you 'll find almost everyone awake till 4AM(Opps!! Did I understate the time!!). Assignment or no asignment, that becomes the routine. Some sincere students do study all that while in the library while the other lot spends the same time watching movies on net, playing games on LAN or chatting - All this inspite of having classes at 8 in the morning!

When I look back today and take stock of the four months spent here, the first thought that strikes is that the time flew by very fast. Inspite of the numerous night sessions ( Batra - Ameya jugalbandis), numerous maggie sessions (Courtsey Pakz), trips to Clark Quay (MOS, Rupee Room); there is so much to explore in Singapore (One that I can think of is Esplanede - The favourite place of our Editor writer - Elina). The time spent here has been memorable. Making new friends (within the batch and with the June batch), those moments of farewell (June batch), the euphoria of securing a job (matching their desire); the pressure situation created by the GMBA program has been instrumental in bringing all of us together and much more closer than what we would have been. As we run the last lap of this session, all that I can think now is of the memories of the events that we have experienced here in Singapore and of course what all needs to be done in the next month so that we dont miss out out on something.

If there are guys and gals who are aspirants, my suggestion would be to take a plunge in the program!! The profs are good, infrastructure is amazing and so are the batchmates( atleast I can say that for my batch). Come and enjoy this experience; I am sure you will cherish this time all your life!!
